GO Graveyard Scene page_2 by Grrrenadine GO Graveyard Scene page_2 by Grrrenadine
Done as a challenge to self to see whether I could draw a proper comic. Obviously, I failed on many levels (i.e. there are no proper panels and the colors look like somebody vomited a rainbow), so I'll try to take into account all the criticism.

Anyway, this is that one scene from Terry Pratchett's and Neil Gaiman's "Good Omens" wherein the low-ranking demon Crowley is saddled with the Antichrist.

Thank you! His design is kinda derivative in this comic but oh well, it got better.

Did you deliberately draw Crowley to look like the zombie guy from Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name in the middle-left panel? :3

I sincerely swear I didn't! (although the suit-shirt-tie combo is definitely Zombie's)
I think his appearance mimics Casimiro's, of all people.

...hey, yeah, he does look a fair amount like Casimiro.

I really just meant the colour scheme and the outfit, anyway.

There nothing wrong with a lack of panels. I read many comics from many countries and I think this was a unique and very nice format.

I really, really like the way you drew Crowley in the last panel. And I like the way you designed the comic, it's very flowy and the whole comic seems inspired by Hannah Is Not A Boy's Name, which I love.

Personally I like the layout of the frames, it has more impact than normal box panels - far more eye catching and creative I think.

Great character designs. I love Good Omens and you've done a great job here :)

Yeah, I'm not too hot on identical-box-type-panels myself, but mine could be a bit more coherent or something. Anyway, thank you!

Your style of drawing works wonderfully for G.O. and I have to say that Crowley's "OH NO" at the bottom of the page is definitely my favourite part.

I LOVE YOU FOREVER AND EVER FOR DOING THIS AND THIS HAS BLOWN MY MIND!
The instant I saw the thumbnail I got a "Hanna" feel (and interestingly I was correct haha), but nonetheless the style is perfect for this introduction scene and your work with it is perfect! I do have to say that the paneling is a tad confusing (it might be all the negative space), but otherwise I love what you do with the variations in the way you portray the characters (like gradient silhouettes).
Fantastic job!
p.s. I really really really love your Crowley and I think I may just fanart your fanart :slow:

I really like this page. The panel INSIDE the question mark and the little silhouettes of Hastur and Ligur, as well as Crowley's last reaction shot, are my favorites.

The text with all the names for the Antichrist get a bit jumbled and confusing to read, as the eye doesn't know where to go in a couple of spots. I read "Angel of the Bottomless Great Beast" and "Father of Spawn" at first (both of which were intentionally hilarious), for example.

On the subject of "leading the eye", I'd also recommend looking into some tips on good comic page composition. This isn't bad-- I can see where the "panels" are even without borders, and the story flows in a logical order. Still, some of the speech bubbles encroach on the other panels to a point where they might be mistakenly read out of order. For example: Crowley's "Oh no." looks like it comes right after the speech bubble right above it, and the eye jumps to it right away before correcting itself upon realizing that this bubble belongs to the "panel" below. Like I said, though, this isn't bad. I can read it without much confusion. Still, it's something to keep in mind if you are looking to improve your comicking. Scott McCloud writes a series of invaluable books on making comics, which I would highly recommend; they're an excellent resource.

Your style is still fabulous. I love your character designs (you've kept Crowley's cheekbones in there, and that makes me SO happy!) and your smooth colors and interesting textures. It all looks really good so far, so I hope you'll continue this!

I looked through all your comments and I have to say they are immensely helpful. You're good at pinpointing problems -) E.g. I see how the layout-ing definitely needs work.
From what I've heard of Scott McCloud's books, they're really good, but I don't think they're available in Russia. Oh well.
And lol, now that you mention it, it does read "Father of Spawn" down there. Heh =D

I went through animation school, and if there's one thing I learned, it was how to give and take critiques. I'm glad that you found it helpful!

Ah, I wasn't aware you were in Russia. Can you order books online, like on Amazon? I'd be happy to mail you some books, but shipping might be expensive.

Yeah, I can probably order it. Or otherwise try to download it from somewhere (tsk pretend like I didn't just say that).
Animation school? That's cool =) Do you now work within the industry? (asking out of curiousity, you don't need to answer if it's too personal).

LOL, say what? 9_9 I heard nothing. *cough*

I don't do any animation right now, no, but I have been doing freelance art and comics on the side. There aren't a lot of jobs in the animation industry here in Minnesota where I live, so I'd have to relocate if I wanted to find work in my field. Which I might, someday. :P

The coloring is pretty marvelous- it is the best kind of rainbow vomit possible. And the Antichrist's swirly elbows and kneecaps make me smile. I dunno man, these comics look awesome so far. I wouldn't change anything.
